October 7th 2017. Upjohn Park reopened for the children of Ridgecrest. Representatives from the Ridgecrest City Council, The City’s Department of Parks and Recreation and the Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce were there for the traditional ribbon-cutting on Saturday morning. Free hot dogs from Walmart, free drinks from McDonald’s, popcorn, and Shaved Ice were available at the time. As many as 200 kids played on the new equipment and had a great time. Ridgecrest Mayor Peggy Breeden, Councilwoman Lindsey Stephens who many credit with masterminding the park upgrade, Jason Patin, Lance Foster and Arielle Rey from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, interim City Manager Ron Strand and acting RPD Chief Jed McLaughlin, along with Chamber of Commerce Chair Debbie Benson and chamber ambassadors all attended the opening.Patin and Stephens spoke briefly, thanking everyone for coming and reminding people that a similar ribbon-cutting and grand opening will be held at Pearson Park on Sat. Oct. 21 at 11 a.m when that park is ready to reopen.
