The Amazon Rain Forest has been burning for about 3 weeks now. The number of fires in the amazon is up 85% compared to last year. Brazil declared a state of emergency because of the rising fires. In this year alone more than 80,000 fires in the country have been detected by Brazil’s space research center. They are in a dry season right  now and people believe this has some reason to do with why there are so many fires. In a 48 hour period leading up to Thursday, there were more than 2,500 active fires in the Brazilian Rainforest. The Amazon Forest is important to us as well. Scientists are saying that these fires are going to affect us for years to come.
