The first ever poem was dating back between 2100 B.C and around 600 b.c. in Mesopotamia, a poem called The Epic of Gilgamesh but wasn’t entirely finished so the completed version was written in the 12th century B.C. by a Babylonians author and editor that called himself Sin-Leqi-Unninni. This poem different from others, as this was written about a historical figure a kind who resigned over the Sumerian city-state of Uruk around 2700 B.C. The Epic of Gilgamesh is consisting of Sumerian poems, for each poem it was written anonymously by a completely different person. The genre of the poem itself is heroic quest; heroic epic. The poem was written in: Sumerian; Akkadian; Hurrian; Hittite, all of those languages were written in cuneiform script. But its original languages was written in Akkadian. The poem was first translated into english and published in 1872; ¨The first comprehensive scholarly translation to be published in English was R. Campbell Thompson’s in 1930.¨ When it was first, discovered it was written on 12 clay tablets, in the ruins of a library in Ashurbanipal in Nineveh by Hormuzd.
